Who is this class designed for?

  • This is an introductory class to didgeridoo music appreciation and how to play. In 4 class
    sessions you will get fundamental instruction on how to practice and improve your basic skills
    on didgeridoo and learn about the culture of Indigenous Australia.

  • If you are an intermediate to advanced player John is also available for private instruction.

Class Outline

Part I - Didgeridoo Intro:
  • In this first segment John will present an introduction to didgeridoo history, construction,
    acoustics of instrument design and artwork from Aboriginal Australia. John will be playing on
    all kinds of didgeridoos throughout the class.
  • There will be the rare opportunity to see pictures of how a didgeridoo is made and hear raw
    uncut recordings from traditional Yolngu Aboriginal song cycles that John was able to record in
    person. From a trip when visiting a Aboriginal community in NE Arnhem Land, Northern
    Territory of Australia featuring one of Aboriginal Australia’s master elder craftsman and player
    Djalu Gurruwiwi.

  • If you don’t have a didgeridoo no worries a plastic PVC starter didgeridoo to practice on will be
    available at The Music Trader on deposit terms. Or purchase a didgeridoo from John's on site
